Make your bed every morning

It’s such a little thing but if you make your bed every morning it can have a positive impact on your mental health and well-being and generally get you ready to tackle the day ahead.

Here are 5 reasons you should get into the habit of making your bed everyday:

make your bed every morning

Helps Reduce Stress

Clutter can contribute to a sense of overwhelm and stress and by getting into the habit of making your bed and putting clothes away every day that can help create a calm and soothing environment.  Your bedroom will no longer be a place of clutter and chaos.

Boost Your Mood

It may only be a small accomplishment but it’s one task that you tick off your list and set you up to tackle bigger things during the day.  When you accomplish something, it can give you a small boost of serotonin which contributes to making you feel happier.

Builds a Tidy Habit

If you make it part of your morning routine it will become a habit and you can transfer this tidy habit to other areas of your home.

Habits are essentially patterns of behaviour that become “worn in” to our brains. It’s said that if you repeat something for 21 days it will become a habit.  So once you’ve built up the habit of making your bed you could move on to other areas in your home you want to tackle.

It can Help You Sleep Better

By creating a tidy, calm space your bedroom will become a welcoming sanctuary and in turn this can help you sleep better.

It looks Nicer

This is simple but true and you may be the only one to see your bed but walking into a room with a neatly bed just looks nicer.  Can you imagine walking into a hotel room and seeing an un-made bed!

So, there are the 5 reasons to make your bed every day.  And, while It’s definitely a great idea to make your bed every morning it’s also really good if you can air it before you do.

A simple way to do that is to throw the bedclothes / duvet back and shake and plump the pillows when you get up. Open the windows to get some air flow and leave the bed to air while you shower and get ready.

Once you’ve finished getting ready make your bed and you’ll be set for the day.

And, don’t forget it’s a good idea to use some Bicarbonate of Soda to freshen up your mattress once a month.
