natural laundry scent booster

Let’s be honest – we all love that freshly-laundered, just-hung-on-the-line scent. But commercial laundry scent boosters? They’re often packed with synthetic fragrances and unnecessary chemicals that can irritate your skin, harm the environment, and hang around in your clothes a little too long.

If you’ve ever looked at the ingredient list on a big-brand scent booster and thought, “Wait… what even is that?” – you’re not alone. So, why don’t we ditch the mystery and make our own with ingredients you can actually pronounce?

Why Make Your Own Natural Laundry Scent Booster?

  • No nasties – Say goodbye to synthetic fragrances, dyes, and questionable ingredients.

  • Eco-friendly – Less plastic packaging, fewer toxins in the water system. Win-win!

  • Customisable scents – Choose essential oils you love and tailor them to your mood or the seasons.

  • Gentle on sensitive skin – Great for little ones, allergy-prone skin, or anyone trying to cut back on irritants.

  • Budget-friendly – A little goes a long way, and you probably have the ingredients already.

How to make Natural Lundry Scent Booster

It’s very simple and only 3 ingredients

🧺 What You’ll Need for Natural Laundry Scent Booster

  • 1 cup rock salt – Helps disperse the oils and softens water slightly.

  • ½ cup bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) – Natural deodoriser and softener.

  • 30–40 drops of essential oils – Pick your favourite combo (see blends below).

  • A glass jar or container with a tight lid – For storing your lovely homemade booster.

How To Make It

  1. Mix the dry ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the rock salt and bicarbonate of soda. Give it a good stir to blend evenly.
  2. Add your essential oils
Drop your essential oils onto the salt mixture a few drops at a time, stirring well in between to evenly distribute the fragrance.
  3. Let it settle
If you can, leave the mixture uncovered for about an hour before storing it – this helps the oils bind and mellow together.
  4. Store it up
Pop the mixture into a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Label it if you’re feeling fancy.
  5. Use it!
Add 2–3 tablespoons directly into the drum of your washing machine before loading your laundry. It’s safe for both front and top loaders.

Final Thoughts

Making your own natural laundry scent booster is one of those small switches that feels so satisfying. You know exactly what’s in it, it works just as well (if not better) than shop-bought versions, and your laundry smells wonderful without all the synthetic stuff.

Once you start making your own blends, you’ll never look back – and your laundry room might just become your new happy place. Okay, maybe that’s pushing it… but it will smell incredible in there.

So go on, give it a go. Your clothes (and the planet) will thank you. 🌍💚
