Hi, I’m Francesca but everyone calls me Frankie; and this is my Blog ” Thoroughly Modern Grandma “. I’m married to Mr J, a freelance Consultant Engineer, who’s put up with me for almost 40 years!
We have one daughter Gemma (G) and three grandsons. I love being a Grandma and we spend as much time as possible with our three grandsons whilst still managing to find plenty of time to travel and indulge in our passion for food and wine. And, although I’m certainly no Eco Warrior I am also trying to reduce our waste and be a little kinder to our Planet.
In December 2017 I retired from Transport for London where I had worked as Chief Planning & Reporting Accountant for the past 24 years. This has given me new found freedom but after having such a structured work pattern for so long, where my working day was revolved around meetings and relied up a well organised “Outlook” calendar I felt needed to find something to help me with the transition to my new found freedom. So say hello to my new blog – “Thoroughly Modern Grandma”
And, as you’re likely to hear a lot about G and the “Boys” here’s a quick introduction. G is married to Mr G and they have three boys, Grandson no 1. Finley (“F” born 2007), Grandson no 2. Caspar (“C” born 2009) and Grandson no 3. Isaac; or Zacky Zackysaurus as we like to call him; (“Z” born 2011). They are all totally adorable (well most of the time) and are all crazy mad on football, as well as the other usual boy things of computer games, climbing, BMXing, swimming, surfing, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, making a lot of noise, getting muddy, making a mess etc etc – basically totally exhausting !
I hope you enjoy reading the blog and gain a few insights into how I try to blend old fashioned values with new technology for today’s modern life.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention that as part of mine and Mr J’s retirement plans G, Mr G, the Boys and us are planning on buying a new large house and moving in together. The theory being it will give us the freedom to go off travelling when we want and give G and the Boys more room. It should make for some interesting reading 🙂
