Making your own Natural Homemade Cleaning Recipes is a great way to start reducing plastic waste in your home. And, this Natural General Purpose Cleaning Spray with infused vinegar is the perfect way to start.
I’m not a zealous environmentalist but I do like to do my bit for the Planet where I can as I believe every little help. It may be reducing the amount of single use plastic, recycling as much as possible, aiming for zero waste or using homemade cleaning products.
The goal should be zero waste and reducing the amount of rubbish that we send to the dump so my new mantra is:
Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot.
And, my go to Natural General Purpose cleaning spray is made with white vinegar infused with citrus peel or herbs and distilled or cooled boiled water. Just remember you can’t use it in granite, stone or marble.
How to infuse your vinegar
The recipe for a vinegar based general purpose cleaning spray is simple, see below, but it is so much better if you infuse the vinegar first with citrus peel or herbs to improve the smell.
You can infuse your vinegar with lots of different things and it’s very simple to do.
WHAT TO INFUSE IT WITH:
- Lemon peel
- Mixed Citrus peel including Oranges and Grapefruit
- Lemon and Rosemary
- Mint
- Lavender
- Glass jar
- White Vinegar
- Citrus peel or Herbs
HOW TO:
- Fill your jar 2/3 full with white vinegar
- Add citrus peel or herbs to the jar whenever you have some available
- Leave for at least 2 weeks (the longer the better)
- Strain to remover the citrus peel and it’s ready to use
You can always have a jar on the go and just keep topping it up with vinegar and peel, you will need to discard the peel every few weeks and always make sure the peel or herbs are submerged in the vinegar.
Remember – Never use vinegar based cleaners on marble, stone, ceramic or granite surfaces
